Michael
and Mary (Egan) Dunbar A.K.A. Michael and
Mary
The
husband and wife musical team have been singing together for many years
but have only recently begun to pursue a more public venue for their
talents.
Michael
is a native of the city of Sligo
on the northwest coast of Ireland. An avid reader and keen sports
enthusiast, he writes poetry and is a passionate soccer fanatic, having
represented Ireland as a Youth International. He was employed for
many years as a Senior Court Officer Sergeant at the Brooklyn Supreme
Court and has recently graduated from Brooklyn College with a Master's
Degree in Education-Guidance and Counseling. Michael, in addition to his
other interests, is a gifted song writer and in collaboration with his
wife, Mary, has put together a wonderful mix of songs. His music
has received considerable playtime on North West Radio in Sligo and two
of his compositions were featured on the radio station's Top Twenty
Countdown. He currently performs with Mary on the Irish-American music
scene in Brooklyn with his band, Garavogue,
named after the river that runs through his home town in
Sligo.
The band has a popular following and can be heard regularly at The
Bally Bunion, a
well-known Irish establishment on 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn.
Mary
is a native New Yorker, born, bred and reared in her beloved Brooklyn.
She is a graduate of St. Francis College where she acquired her B.S.
degree. She also studied at Brooklyn College and fondly remembers
her participation in many college chorus productions, most memorably,
her appearance in the college choral group at Carnegie Hall. Mary is a
gifted musician with an enthralling singing voice. Her rendition
of
"Please
Don't Mention Her Again",
a composition of Michael's, was one of the songs featured on North West
Radio's Top Twenty and is an ideal showpiece of her diverse singing
talents where she not only performs lead vocal, but harmonies as well.As
hobbies, she enjoys cooking, crafts, photography and she also makes time
for composing and dabbling with her great assortment of instruments.
When asked how long she has been singing she whimsically replies,
"Since before I was born!"
